The competition covered the immediate urban area of Dupont Circle and studies the macro and micro scale design. The macro scale design speculates how Dupont Circle can be re-designed as a contemporary urban space while the micro scale design focuses on the space over the main entry stair to the Dupont Underground on 19th Street and its immediate surroundings.

The ‘Urban Layers Reconnected’ proposal expands the frame of the circle to capture the adjacent 19th Street and streetscape and, in doing so, flips the hierarchy of importance from automobiles to pedestrians.
